It is with much sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved co-founder and trustee, Huey J. Wilson (1928 - 2008).
Mr. Wilson was a master jeweler, and working along with Angelina, his wife of 58 years, built their business into an 80-store jewelry catalogue showroom and retail enterprise in 12 states, making him a true pioneer in the catalogue showroom industry. He was co-founder and member of the board of Gulf Island Fabrication, Inc., served on the board of Salvation Army and General Health in Baton Rouge. Over the years Mr. Wilson received numerous recognition, notably in 1981 he received the Horatio Alger Award, he was named B’nai B’rith Man of the Year, in 1983 he received the SME Marketer of the Year Award, he was named Ernst & Young "Master Entrepreneur” of the Year in 2001, and was inducted into the Baton Rouge Business Awards Hall of Fame in 2002. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were instrumental in establishing the Louisiana Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation and have remained sustaining donors over the years. Additionally, they have shared in their philanthropic endeavors by establishing the Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation which is particularly sensitive to the handicapped, both physical and mental, those afflicted with disease, disadvantaged youth and the homeless.
As we reflect on his life, knowing his Christian beliefs, we find solace in the hope that he is in a better place. Mr. Wilson will be greatly missed by all of us and we will celebrate his life by continuing to pursue his vision to improve our community through helping those in need.
